Sheaffer Stratowriters were beautiful, well-made ballpoint pens, but the refill has not been made since 1952. My Stratowriter Adapter was available through Shapeways for several years, and many old pens are writing again with modern D1 (mini) refills. One adapter fits every Stratowriter that Sheaffer made, from the 1946 RA-1 retractable to the 1948-52 capped Stratowriters, and even the Tuckaway versions.
Esterbrook made attractive, sturdy fountain pens, mechanical pencils, and ballpoints to match, but the ballpoint refill was truly strange and hasn’t been made for 60+ years. My Adapter, with a modern D1 (mini) refill inserted, makes the FJ ballpoint work like new (or maybe better since the refill is latest technology.
